Between Two Worlds: Annette Nancarrow in Mexico and America
The Kaneff Foundation was honored to underwrite this beautiful exhibit, which opened at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, VA on September 13, 2014 and closed on January 17, 2015, and featured over 40 paintings and sculptures from this remarkably gifted artist. Nancarrow, who found a second home and family in Mexico, produced numerous works of art there, frequently in collaboration with such luminaries as Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
Nancarrow was the maternal grandmother of Mitchell Kaneff, so the sponsoring of this exceptional exhibition at the illustrious Taubman Museum was an especially proud undertaking for The Kaneff Foundation.
Artist on the Edge: Annette and Avant-Garde composer Conlon Nancarrow
Author and biographer Rosemary Carstens writes that – in addition to being a supreme talent in her own right – Annette Nancarrow was the muse to her husband, renowned musician, Conlon Nancarrow, during the years they were together.
This insightful article traces the genesis of their meeting – and subsequent marriage – in a way that is both insightful and entertaining.
In their 1st annual Music Cures fund raiser for the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, The Kaneff Foundation – hosted by Mitchell Kaneff and The Young Presidents band – raised over $140,000 at their Cutting Room benefit. The Kaneff Foundation thanks the generosity of the many donors, as well as those who gave so much of their time to this worthy cause.
